The Gold Coast City Council has authorised new plans for the Coomera Civic Hub development to progress. The three-level building is being described as the city’s first regional integrated community facility. It will be home to a councillor’s office, state-of-the-art library, multi-purpose community centre, youth hub, co-working space for not-for-profits, auditorium and a customer service centre.
To be built on land adjoining the Westfield Coomera Shopping Centre, the Coomera Civic Hub still has a while to go before construction commences. Currently, costs for the project are not confirmed, as many of the details around the project, including design and funding, are commercial in confidence, according to a spokesperson for the council.
“Once agreed, appropriate contractual arrangements would be executed and the detailed design, approvals and construction then undertaken [with] a funding plan to be submitted to the council,” the spokesperson continued.
The civic hub will be a central area for the growing northern Gold Coast residents. With the population expected to double by 2041 to more than 200,000 people, it will be a much-used facility.
