Pimpama is a suburb that has experienced quite a lot of growth over the past few years, with more projected over the next couple of years. This is in part due to its location, which is almost exactly in between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, and the price, which makes it ideal for first home buyers and investors alike. Pimpama has lots of families and young professionals living in it, due to these reasons, which has resulted in a very friendly, welcoming community.

Things we love…

  • Pimpama has a large number of young families and first homeowners living in it, which has created some strong friendships and bonds in each estate and street.
  • Pimpama is located almost in the middle of the Gold Coast and Brisbane, making it ideal for commuters.

But remember that…

  • Pimpama is still a growing suburb, and that means that there is often construction and related road closures and noise.
  • There are pockets of Pimpama that are heavily weighted towards investors/renters, and others that are majority owner-occupiers, so make sure you pick the estate that suits what you’re buying for.

Location & Transport

The main way to travel in Pimpama is by car, simply owing to the fact that the M1 is the main access point for the suburb. Of course, this is good and bad: good, because the highway is generally fast-moving and good for enables easy access to the rest of the Gold Coast, and bad, because having only one major entry and exit point can mean that any traffic will hold up the entire suburb’s comings and goings.

Buses are another fast way to travel around Pimpama itself, although they aren’t widespread. The closest train station is in Ormeau, which means residents will have to catch the bus or drive to the station to use the train. The Gold Coast line can bring users to the Gold Coast itself, or to Brisbane.

It’s worth noting that if the Cross River Rail project goes ahead, a new train station will be opened in Pimpama in 2023. It will be one of three built on the Gold Coast, with the other two in Helensvale North and Worongary-Merrimac. These are designed to help take pressure of the M1, as there will be 3150 extra seats on peak-hour trains on the Gold Coast line under the Cross River Roail.

Lifestyle

The lifestyle in Pimpama is a busy one, mostly due to the fact that most residents work full time and have children. Residents do, however, know how to work with that, and there are often weekend events for residents to bring their children to and relax.

Pimpama is also located right next to Coomera, which means that theme parks like Dreamworld and Movieworld are just down the road (they’re less than 15 minutes away!). The recent upgrades to Coomera due to the 2018 Commonwealth Games are also easily accessible, so if you’re up for a game of basketball and want to use a really fancy court, then you’re all good!

Developments

There are a number of developments currently under construction or about to begin construction in Pimpama. These include The Heights, a new estate planned around its five extensive parklands, and Gainsborough Greens, a massive addition to the area that includes the well-loved Gainsborough Greens golf course.

Residents can also expect from infrastructure upgrades if the new train station is built. This train station, which will extend the Gold Coast line and technically be part of the Cross River Rail project, could make travel in and out of Pimpama much easier than it currently is.

There is also going to be an upgrade to the M1 in Pimpama, although there has not been a date set for this yet. The Department of Transport and Main Roads currently has this upgrade listed as ‘future planning‘. It’s important to note that the construction on the M1, in the suburbs surrounding Pimpama, may cause traffic delays over the next few years.

Education

There aren’t too many options for schools in Pimpama itself, however, given its proximal location to the Gold Coast CBD, this isn’t an issue. There are also several kindergartens in the area

Residents in Pimpama can send their children to Pimpama State Primary College or Ormeau State School, depending on where they live in the suburb. Pimpama State Primary College is a fairly new school, having opened its doors to students for the first time in 2015. This means that all of its facilities are brand new, and the rapidly growing school is putting them to good use. Ormeau State School is the other primary school option in the area, and it is well-known for the strong community spirit and well-loved teachers. There is also King’s Christian College, which runs from early learning/kindergarten to year 7. Pimpama State School is yet another option for primary school aged children.

Students in high school can attend Pimpama State Secondary College, which is known for having a strong focus on education. The Gold Coast CBD is less than 30 minutes drive away (although during peak times, expect this to be a slow drive), and with it, there are quite a few well-renown schools like St. Hilda’s and The Southport School.
