But remember that…

  • The new light rail in Canberra currently does not extend to Belconnen, although there are plans for this in the future.

Location & Transport

Developments

The Republic project by Geocon is currently under construction in Belconnen and will create a brand new “microchasm of a city” which will form a vibrant new hub. Managing director of Geocon, Nick Georgalis says unlike the CBD, the new town centre “won’t empty at 5pm when the large government departments close”. Republic is the largest mixed development currently underway anywhere in Australia and will consist of new apartment towers, hotel, reinvigorated parkland and live performance theater as well as the first Woolworths Metro supermarket in Canberra.

The four apartments towers within Republic, named High Society towers will bring over 1,200 new apartments to the market. The High Society apartments will also be the tallest residential towers in Canberra on their completion in 2020, sitting at 113 metres tall.
